Peters Township Police Department will conduct a Citizens Police Academy from March 3 through April 28.

The program will expand participants’ knowledge and understanding of the law and explore police procedures.

Participants will be taught the basics of criminal law with emphasis on the crimes code and vehicle code. The program will also include patrol tactics, processing of crime scenes, interview and interrogation and many other subjects.

Classes are from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays for nine weeks at the police department, 200 Municipal Drive. Class size is limited to 25 participants to allow greater interaction between students and instructors.

Participants are selected from interested applicants, who must be 18 or older, complete an application, sign a release and waiver from liability, and give permission for Peters Township Police Department to conduct a background check. Preference will be given to Peters Township residents.

Applications and waiver forms are available at the police department and can be downloaded through the township website, https://www.peterstownship.com/.

Applications should be returned no later than Feb. 17 to Officer Gary Orosz at georosz@peterstownship.com, faxed to 724-942-5004, returned by U.S. Mail, or hand delivered to Peters Township Police Department.
