Peters Township Public Library hosts children’s author for programs
Peters Township Public Library will host award-winning children’s author and illustrator Lindsay Barrett George for a series of March 20 literacy programs.
The series is being offered in cooperation with University of Pittsburgh and associate professor Wendy Hardy.
Preschool educators in the area are invited to “Can I Play, Too? Growing Creative and Inclusive Early-Childhood Programs” from noon to 3 p.m. George’s presentation will feature her books and incorporate inclusive practices and sensory art activities for local early literacy educators.
Barb Rothermel and her team from Intermediate Unit 1 and the youth services librarians from Peters Township Public Library will share resources. Studio Make, an art studio for children, will also make a presentation.
Lunch will be provided by Bower Hill Elementary PTA. Educators can register with Maria Piatt at piattm@pt-sd.org by March 16.
Teachers, school librarians and children’s public librarians are welcome to attend “The Power of One Book” from 4 to 5 p.m. George will discuss using children’s literature to support teaching and learning.
Her book “Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse” was chosen as the first selection in Pennsylvania’s “One Book Every Young Child” initiative. Register at ptlibrary.org/events by March 16 to attend.
A family writing and drawing workshop is planned for parents and preschool/kindergarten children from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. George will encourage families to learn creative ways to practice early reading, writing and thinking through art.
