School districts receive safety grants

Pennsylvania’s School Safety and Security Committee has awarded $53.7 million in grants to school districts, vocational schools, intermediate units and charter schools across the state, according to a news release from state Rep. Natalie Mihalek, R-Upper St. Clair.
“I am proud to announce that every school district within the 40th Legislative District will be receiving a school safety grant,” Mihalek said. “It’s important that we are doing everything in our power to keep our students safe and secure and these grants will go a long way to achieving this goal.”
Receiving grants locally are:
- Bethel Park School District, $45,000 for security planning, staff training and equipment;
- Peters Township School District, $257,400 for security planning and purchase of security-related technology;
- Upper St. Clair School District, $45,000 for security planning and purchase of security-related technology.
The School Safety and Security Committee is a 17-member group within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, which was created as part of Act 44 of 2018, a comprehensive school safety law.
One of its duties is to help distribute both meritorious and competitive grants.
