Deacon Bill Batz waves to St. Thomas More Manor residents.

If you can’t go to church, perhaps the church can come to you.

Residents of St. Thomas More Manor in Bethel Park live the proverbial stone’s throw from the Catholic place of worship of the same name. But because of COVID-19, no one has been able to visit, even if he or she lives practically across the street.

So staff members and volunteers from the church decided to conduct a pair of prayer services at the manor, one for each side of the high-rise apartment complex off Oxford Drive.

As residents gathered on their balconies above, Deacon Bill Batz served as officiant for a homily, scripture readings and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Providing music to sing along with were Jonathan Pauley and Mandy Slowey, who are on the St. Thomas More Church Youth Ministry’s High School Core Team.
