Upper St. Clair reopens some outdoor activities, with limitations
Upper St. Clair Township and School District are beginning the gradual reopening of the community’s outdoor resources.
As of May 22, tennis courts and sports courts in Upper St. Clair are open again for use. Singles play is encouraged. Also, the Upper St. Clair School is permitting the use of tracks, fields and outdoor basketball courts at all district buildings.
Because of ongoing construction, access to the Upper St. Clair High School turf field and track will be limited to 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. All users should follow guidelines and social distancing recommendations established by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
As directed by Pennsylvania’s “yellow phase,” organized athletics, programs and permit-based activity are still prohibited on all township and school district fields and within facilities. In addition, all playgrounds and the Community and Recreation Center remain closed until further notice.
Once the region enters the “green phase,” and upon further guidance from the state Department of Health and Allegheny County Department of Health, additional decisions will be made regarding summer aquatics and organized athletics.
The C&RC continues to waive membership fees through the closure.
“The Upper St. Clair community and region as a whole have worked extremely hard to get to this point permitting managed outdoor activity,” Matthew Serakowski, township manager, said. “We want to thank everyone for your understanding and patience during this response. We ask that you continue to be respectful of one another, practice appropriate social distancing and enjoy the outdoors.”
Upper St. Clair School District administrators will continue to review available information and consult with local leaders regarding additional permitted activities.
“It is our hope that we will be able to offer more overall access as the summer progresses,” Superintendent John Rozzo said. “Upper St. Clair is a community filled with caring individuals who work together for the greater good and find ways to help their neighbors through challenging times. I am certain we will emerge stronger than ever.”
