Elks lodge in Bethel Park continues efforts to help those in need

Plenty of people in and around Bethel Park have received delicious meals thanks to Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2213 on South Park Road.
The lodge hosted a free chicken dinner April 16, serving 425 meals that included delivery to folks who haven’t been able to leave their homes because of health considerations. Another 200 dinners were delivered to Light of Life Mission in the North Side to help feed homeless people, including many veterans.
A grant from the Elks National Foundation went toward paying for the meals, along with donations from lodge members.
The chicken dinner followed the lodge’s providing free fish dinners on Good Friday.
Also, the lodge has delivered 1,000 facemasks to Veterans Affairs facilities, the Southwestern Veterans Center and Light of Life, according to Bonnie Filyo, the lodge’s exalted ruler since 2012.
Volunteers are continuing to make masks to help fill the demand.
Another Elks project is collecting coffee to be donated to the Pittsburgh VA Medical Center, and business and lodge members have come through with contributions.
The benevolence continues with a clothing drive for people in need. We are in process of starting a clothing drive for people in need. If you have clothes that are in good condition contact the lodge to arrange to donate at 412-831-0616.
