Bethel Park Kindness Project acknowledges considerate community members
A message has resonated throughout Bethel Park during the COVID-19 pandemic: Be kind.
“We’ve regularly witnessed neighbors helping neighbors, businesses reaching out to the community, and everyone in Bethel Park pulling together for food drives, mask drives, blood drives and more,” Mayor Jack Allen said in a video promoting a municipal initiative.
The Bethel Park Kindness Project encourages community members to help recognize those who have shown compassion and consideration in their actions since January.
Examples could include someone who shops, cuts grass, takes out the trash or walks a dog on behalf of others, or who has sewn masks or donated other essential items.
“Acts of kindness” submissions will be accepted through 6 p.m. Oct. 30. They can be made by visiting the Municipality of Bethel Park Facebook page and submitting information under the pinned post at the top, or by email at kindness@bethelpark.net.
Allen will present special kindness certificate to those who are acknowledged and mention their names at a subsequent Bethel Park Council meeting. Also, a video is planned to highlight recipients who are willing to participate afterward.
As part of the project, the municipality is holding a sidewalk chalk competition from Oct. 25-30. Participants can stop by Evey True Value Hardware, 5779 Library Road, to pick up chalk. The event is open to folks of all ages.
Participation is simple: Draw pictures or messages expressing your vision of kindness and once complete, take a photo and post it on the Municipal Facebook page in the comments under a special “Sidewalk Chalk Competition” post that will be up beginning Oct. 18. Five winners will be selected and will receive Dairy Queen certificates.
Sponsors for the competition are Evey True Value Hardware, owned by lifelong Bethel Park resident Andy Amrhein, and Allen’s Dairy Queen, 4846 Library Road.
