The municipality of Bethel Park is beginning its fall/winter “Live Well” Speaker Series at 7 p.m. Aug. 11, with Outreach Teen & Family Services executive director Mary Birks discussing programming information.

The Mt. Lebanon-based organization provides counseling services to area students and parents, and Birks will address other opportunities to engage with her organization through webinars, podcasts and presentations.

During the hourlong presentation, she also will request topic ideas for “Outreach 5.0,” in celebration of Outreach Teen & Family Services’ upcoming 50th anniversary in 2024.

“As an advocate for both children and public education for nearly 30 years, I understand the value of working with and listening to partners to get things accomplished for the benefit of kids and families,” she said.

Birks has served as Outreach’s executive director since October of 2014 and is accountable for her agency’s operations, developing fiscally responsible policies, and implementing programs in support of the agency’s mission.

Outreach Teen & Family Services is a nonprofit, community-based counseling agency with a site available at the Bethel Park Municipal Building, by appointment.

The organization provides professional, confidential, affordable counseling to young people and their families, with services to address anger management, family problems, school-related issues, depression, anxiety, drugs and alcohol, and myriad other issues. Clients are seen within a short period of time from the initial request for services.

“Outreach Teen & Family Services is an invaluable resource to adolescents and families in distress,” Birks said. “We employ nine part-time counselors who hold a minimum of a master’s degree, and four with LPCs. These professionals have an average of 15 years of counseling experience with adolescents.”

The Aug. 11 “Live Well” Bethel Park program will be held via Facebook Live on the “Municipality of Bethel Park” Facebook page.
