Peters Township School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a new five-year contract for Superintendent Jeannine French.

The contract begins July 1, at a salary of $211,000, and runs through June 30, 2026.

“There are so many people who are grateful to have you as a superintendent, everyone sitting on this board and lots of people in the district,” board member Lisa Anderson told French. “We’ve always known that you and your whole administrative team who works with you is great. But during the pandemic, it showed even more. The fact that we are one of the few districts able to go five days a week was because of your efforts before school started this past fall.”

Tom McMurray, board president, acknowledged “the growth that you have shown over the years, to come from the first time being a superintendent to being, I think, one of the premiere superintendents around this whole area.”

“Our district is very honored to have you,” he said, “and our board is pleased to be able to work with you.”

French joined the district in 2013 after working for 16 years in Pittsburgh Public Schools in various roles, the latest as deputy superintendent. Prior to that, she worked for Allegheny Neuropsychiatric Institute, Allegheny General Hospital and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, concentrating on the treatment of children with externalizing disorders.

A native of Moon Township, French earner her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Allegheny College, and her master’s in psychology and doctorate in clinical psychology from Duquesne University. She received her principal certification from Carnegie Mellon University and her superintendent’s letter of eligibility from the University of Pittsburgh.

Following vote, she thanked school board members.

“I’m grateful for your guidance and your support, and I also want to acknowledge my team,” she said about her fellow district administrators. “I’m grateful for their hard work and all of their efforts. They’re an amazing group.”
