Hundreds of volunteers participated in the Wreaths Across America-sponsored annual placement of holiday wreaths on more than 14,000 gravesites from Dec. 16-19 at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Cecil Township.

On Jan. 23, all the wreaths were removed from those grave sites by more than 100 volunteers in just a few hours.

The Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair proudly supported the wreath cleanup event by providing a “COVID-19 Safe” group of volunteers, including Dick Beck, Ray Detig, John Donahoe, Tim Donovan, Tracy Estabrook, Jim Hinerman, Eric Pfiel, Karen Pfiel, George Pitcairn and Sam Provil.

The activity represented another hands-on Rotary service opportunity for remembering and thanking those who have served the United States.

Volunteers load wreaths honoring veterans who have been laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies onto a truck during a recent cleanup event.
