Peters Township Class of ’71 leaves living legacy at new high school

When members of the Peters Township High School Class of 1971 reunited recently for a weekend of activities, one of them involved shovels on a Saturday morning.

A new tree is on the grounds of the new Peters Township HIgh School, thanks to members of the Class of 1971.
The classmates helped celebrate 50 years since graduation by donating and planting a tree on the grounds of the new high school, which opened in January.
The high school they attended on East McMurray Road was relatively new at the time, having been built in 1968, and it now is in the process of being converted to Peters Township Middle School.
Class of ’71 members also had the opportunity to tour the new building and see some of the changes in high school education that have occurred in the past half century, from the age of blackboards and mimeograph machines to the technological advancements of Smartboards and 3D printers.
Trees, though, pretty much are planted the same as ever.
