A ceremonial ribbon cutting Thursday morning marked the opening of St. Clair Health’s new Dunlap Family Outpatient Center.

The $125 million facility, adjacent to St. Clair Hospital, will house 225 health care professionals and represents the largest construction project in the health care provider’s 67-year history.

Members of the Dunlap family join St. Clair Health officials in cutting the ribbon for the new outpatient center.

“The Dunlap Family Outpatient Center has been described as a bridge between St. Clair’s proud past and bright future,” said Tim Dunlap, son of benefactors Anna and Edward Dunlap Jr., prior to the ribbon cutting. “Our family could not be more proud of the transition.”

Edward founded Southpointe-based CentiMark Corp., a national roofing contractor company, in 1968, and his son now serves as president and chief executive officer. The Dunlaps’ donation to the outpatient center project is the largest in St. Clair history.

“My parents have had a 20-plus-year commitment to St. Clair Health,” Tim said, “including the fourth floor’s Dunlap Conference Center, off the main lobby, and the hospital’s nationally recognized emergency room.”

The opening event also included a video message from Gov. Tom Wolf.

“During this past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us just how important our healthcare field is, and we need to ensure that we are keeping up with its changing demands. So thank you for putting the needs of your patients above everything else,” Wolf said.

The center’s opening marks a milestone for patients being treated for cancer. As part of an affiliation, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center will occupy more than 20,000 square feet on the top floor of the new facility, enabling a complete team of cancer professionals to work together on the main St. Clair campus.

Overall, the outpatient center features diagnostic and therapeutic services that include laboratory and medical imaging, infusion services, 10 operating rooms and two procedure rooms for outpatient surgery.

Also in the building are 39 private pre- and post-surgical patient rooms, 15 post-anesthesia recovery bays, an expansive endoscopy suite with six procedure rooms, multidisciplinary physician offices, shared waiting spaces and multiple seating options, a café serving chef-prepared offerings, and indoor and valet parking.

Located on property split between Mt. Lebanon and Scott Township, the center also contains a Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy in the main lobby on the fifth floor. Patients are able to take advantage of Walgreens’ “Meds to Beds” program, which eases the transition to home after a procedure by providing the option of bedside delivery of prescription medications.

The outpatient center is connected physically to St. Clair Hospital, which now will be dedicated to inpatient and emergency services.
