Over the past decade, more than 8,000 refugees from the Bhutan-Nepal region of the Himalayas have settled in the South Hills, bringing with them a rich and diverse cultural heritage.

The Himalayan Foundation-USA has planned a Himalayan Cultural Exhibition and Food Festival Oct. 30 and 31 in South Park. The event will showcase dance, art, handiwork, artifacts and traditions.

Visitors to the festival will have the opportunity to purchase traditional food, handmade goods, cultural clothing and jewelry. The event is open to the public.

“We are very honored to have this opportunity to share our culture and our story with our new friends and neighbors in America,” said Til Gurung, Brentwood resident and Himalayan Foundation-USA president. “I hope many will come to visit with us.”

The event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days in South Park’s Edgebrook Field, 2372 Corrigan Drive.

Himalayan Foundation-USA’s mission is to ensure the acclimation, health and long-term well being of the Bhutanese immigrant community in southwestern Pennsylvania by addressing the urgent needs of its most vulnerable members, facilitating the social and educational success of its youth, and preserving its rich Himalayan history and culture.
