Upper St. Clair students advance to FBLA nationals
Four Upper St. Clair High School students were among the top finishers at the Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference held recently in Hershey.
As a result, the foursome advanced to nationals to be held June 29 to July 2 in Chicago.
The state event was held April 11 to 13 in Hershey.
Mahir Parmar took home the top prize. The sophomore finished first in the Introduction to Business Procedures category.
George Atencio, Grace Atencio and Evie Sullivan secured second places for business management. George Atencio is a senior while the other two are sophomores.
“Thousands of students from hundreds of schools across Pennsylvania competed at this event,” said FLBA adviser Pat Manion, who also is a social studies teacher. “Our students teach themselves the content and skills for these events. The results are a testament to their hard work.”
Several other USC students placed in the Top 10 in the state competition.
Juniors Maanasa Reddy and Keshav Narashimhan finished fifth for public speaking and business calculations respectively.
While Arya Patel, a sophomore, was sixth in advertising, senior Alyana Childs was seventh in publication design.
Picking up ninth places were senior Ashley Eichberg (impromptu speaking) and freshmen Esha Lathia and Shreeva Sutreja for introduction to social media strategies.
Earning 10th places for parliamentary procedures were seniors William Bacdayan, Ammar Kethavath, Shreya Golakiya, Anya Ekbote and Vidhur Senthil.
FBLA is a nonprofit educational association that prepares students for careers in business by helping them develop leadership abilities, and prepare for entry into, and advancement within, a business or business-related occupation.
