Students ready to start new school year
School bells will be ringing for area students in the upcoming weeks.
Listed are the local school openings and the calendars to be followed for the 2022-23 school year:
n Bethel Park – Classes begin Aug. 25.
Thanksgiving break is set for Nov. 24-28. Winter break is Dec. 23-30. Spring recess is April 6-10.
Graduation is June 8, with a rain date of June 9 or 10.
n Chartiers Valley – First day for students is Aug. 24. Kindergarten students will attend for only a half-day.
Thanksgiving break is scheduled from Nov. 24-28 and students will have no school on Nov. 29. Winter break is from Dec. 23-30, with school resuming Jan. 3. Spring break is from April 6-10.
Graduation is set for May 31.
n Mt. Lebanon – First day of school is Aug. 29.
Thanksgiving recess is Nov. 24-25. Winter recess is Dec. 26-30, with school reconvening Jan. 2. Spring break is April 6-10.
The last day of school is June 7.
n Peters Township – School starts Aug. 24.
The district will conduct community tours of the high school from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 20. Student-led tours of the facility, located at 121 Rolling Hills Drive, will begin just inside the main entrance.
n South Fayette – School begins Aug. 24 and concludes June 9. Graduation is June 8.
Students will have off Nov. 24-28 for Thanksgiving and Dec. 22-Jan. 2 for the holidays. Other breaks will be from April 6-10 and May 25-29.
On one Monday each month students will have a planned two-hour late start to allow for professional training, providing an “extended weekend” for students. Staff development and clerical days are also scheduled accordingly to provide longer weekends for students/parents.
n Upper St. Clair – School starts for all students in grades 1-12 on Aug. 24.
For kindergarten families, Aug. 24 and 25 will be used to conduct welcome events an orientation. Students will arrive with a parent or other caregiver during their scheduled session and remain at the school together until the program concludes. The first regular day of kindergarten, including riding the school bus, is Aug. 26.
Other important dates are: Nov. 23-25 for Thanksgiving; Dec 23-31 for winter recess and April 3-7 for spring break.
The last day of school is June 9. Commencement will be held June 8.
The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. for the high school students; 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. for Fort Couch Middle School; 8:35 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Boyce Middle School, and 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. for Baker, Eisenhower and Streams elementary schools.
All schools will adjourn on the Labor Day (Sept. 5) and Memorial Day (May 29) holidays.
