Police, postal service warning Bethel Park residents of fraud

The Bethel Park police are alerting citizens of potential phone fraud.
Multiple residents have reported receiving a phone call from someone identifying themselves as an actual member of the police department needing to urgently discuss an “ongoing civil issue.”
According to the BPPD, the phone call is fraudulent.
In a press release, the BPPD urged residents, “Do not provide any information or funds to this person.”
Police also encouraged citizens to contact them if they are ever in doubt of the legitimacy of a call from its officers. “Hang up and call our dispatch center,” the release said.
The contact number is 412-833-2000.
The department also has an anonymous tip line at 412-851-2773 and an email address: crimewatch@bethelpark.net.
Additionally, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has notified the police department that several residents have received SMS text messages claiming that a package is on hold for them.

n Include any relevant details in your email, for example: if you clicked the link, if you lost money, if you provided any personal information, or if you experienced any impacts to your credit or person.
The Postal Inspection Service will contact you if more information is needed.
