Chabad of the South Hills is currently accepting toy donations for children in need during Chanukah.

The original deadline for donations was Dec. 14, but Batya Rosenblum, co-director of the synagogue, said that they will accept toys until Dec. 22. Donations can be dropped off at 1701 McFarland Road, Mt. Lebanon.

Rosenblum said that toys should be new and in the original packaging, and that dolls, art supplies, puzzles and blocks are among the most desired items.

“If someone would like to sponsor, they can give money and we can get toys we know the kids will appreciate,” Rosenblum said.

According to Rosenblum, Chabad has identified families they will help, but any extra toys will go St. Clair Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

“We want to bring a little more light to their day in honor of this season of happiness and joy,” Rosenblum said. “It’s not too late, and every donation is appreciated.”

Chabad of the South Hills has other Chanukah activities planned. On Dec. 19, it will host a “Glow in the Dark” Chanukah event at the Dormont Pool parking lot.

Levi Rosenblum, youth and program director at Chabad, said it will include the lighting of a menorah and glow-in-the-dark face paint for kids.

The event begins at 5 p.m. Though pre-registering is not required, it is encouraged. Those who register online by Dec. 11 will get a free raffle ticket, which otherwise will cost $18. Those interested can register at chabadsh.com.
