Mt. Lebanon to appoint new police chief
Mt. Lebanon will have a new chief of police early in the new year.
Commissioners will ratify the appointment of Jason Haberman at their Jan. 3 meeting at 8 p.m. He will then be sworn in by Municipal Manager Keith McGill.
Haberman has worked in law enforcement for 24 years and had been Mt. Lebanon’s deputy chief since 2018.
Before Mt. Lebanon, he worked in the Port Authority of Allegheny County Police Department, Wilkinsburg Police Department and Edgewood Police Department. He also served as the mobile field force commander for the 2009 G20 Summit.
“Jason has been an important part of our police department. He led the department in its goal of achieving accreditation in the state of Pennsylvania and he is developing a multidisciplinary team for response to mental health and behavioral health calls,” McGill said in a press release. “He is part of the culture of excellence and continual improvement that exists at the Mt. Lebanon Police Department and he has outstanding relationships with all of our partner organizations, including the Mt. Lebanon School District. He has served well as an acting chief during this period of transition, and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Haberman will succeed Aaron Lauth, who retired as the chief in May.
“My entire career and life’s work have prepared me to serve the Mt. Lebanon community in this position,” Haberman said. “I look forward to leading this department into the future, including working with our outstanding officers and engaging with the members of the community I serve.”
