USC wind ensemble to be featured

The Upper St. Clair High School wind ensemble will be featured at the 13th Annual Senior Wind Band Celebration, set for Jan. 21, 2023, at Marywood University in Scranton.
“The band exhibits significant levels of musical achievement,” said F. David Romines. He is the Marywood University’s music department co-chair and director of bands.
“It is the opinion of the committee that a performance by Upper St. Clair would provide a worthy musical model for the band students and directors in attendance.”
USC’s wind ensemble is composed of the school’s top 40 to 60 woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists.
Placement in the ensemble is by competitive audition and includes flutes, oboes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, French horns, trombones, euphoniums, tubas and percussion.
Dr. John Seybert directs the ensemble. He is the school’s performing arts curriculum leader and director of bands.
The ensemble along with the high school’s symphonic band recently earned all superior ratings, the highest level possible, from a panel of college-level adjudicators in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Music Performance Assessment.
The Marywood University Wind Band Celebrations are independent outreach programs designed to provide support to band students in grades 7 to 12 and their directors.
The events are sponsored by the Marywood University Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance; the Marywood chapter of the Collegiate Music Educators’ National Conference; and the Marywood University Bands.
