Area schools participate in German Day event
Students from several area high schools participated in the 22nd annual German Day event, held March 3 at Washington & Jefferson College.
The day featured immersive experiences in German culture, including poetry readings, a Culture Bowl, and drama, writing, music and art competitions.
Students from high schools in the South Hills fared well in the competitions:
- Bethel Park – Willow Hernishin won second place for writing poetry; Mira Weston, first place, writing non-fiction; Shelby Yonish, third place, writing non-fiction, first place, writing fiction; Ella Voskamp, first place, art drawing; Lily Janus, third place, art drawing; Kaitlyn Wiard, first place, art painting, and Jason Turske, first place, poetry recitation. Also, a team from Bethel Park placed third in the music competition.
- Mt. Lebanon – Gia Routh, second place, poetry recitation. Team competitions – first place, drama competition and Culture Bowl, and second place, music competition.
- Upper St. Clair – Team competitions, third place, Culture Bowl and drama competition.
