Four earn DAR Good Citizen awards

Four area high school students were honored with Good Citizen awards by the Bethel Fife and Drum Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Winners in their school districts were Maclaen Johnson from Bishop Canevin, Antonio Barbarossa from Canon- McMillan, Madeline Thompson of Mt. Lebanon and Eva Rankin from Upper St. Clair.
Rankin was also selected as the Good Citizen winner and her entry was forwarded to the Pennsylvania State Society DAR for consideration at the state level.
The DAR Good Citizen Award is to reward individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. Teachers and the school’s senior class select the students.
Once a student is chosen as a high school’s DAR Good Citizen, they are invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program by submitting an essay. The essay winner is selected by independent judges.
The Bethel Fife and Drum Chapter, NSDAR is a chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. DAR promotes Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism.
