Thanks to Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) and Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-Allegheny/Washington), Bethel Park secured a grant for improvements to Millennium Park. The grant will go toward the construction of 10 pickleball courts in the park.

The award comes from the Allegheny Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund and was approved by the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority.

“A project like this is exactly the kind of investment for which these dollars are intended,” Mihalek said. “Bethel Park is a thriving community and is dedicated to offering residents and visitors top-notch recreation facilities and these improvements will be a great addition.”

The GEDTF program was established by Act 71 of 2004. Though the grant program was scheduled to end in in 2019, Act 42 of 2017 extended the program another 10 years. It is funded through gaming revenues and does not include taxpayer money from the General Fund.

With the award of $280,000, the project is slated to include the courts, a walkway to the facilities, expansion of the existing storm water pond and a new parking lot.

“Millennium Park has become a fixture in the local community and has helped make Bethel Park a fantastic place to live, work and play,” Robinson said. “I am pleased to see continued state investment in economic development and recreation for our region. I thank Rep. Mihalek and Bethel Park officials for working with me to help secure this funding.”
