Ma and Pop’s Country Kitchen provides more than 350 Thanksgiving meals
BETHEL PARK – For the fourth year running, Ma and Pop’s Country Kitchen in Bethel Park recruited an army of volunteers to give out more than 350 Thanksgiving meals throughout the community.
Erica and Stephen Diethorn own the restaurant, and hoped to help those who may be alone on Thanksgiving, or don’t have the means for a meal.
“This is our opportunity to give a little back to the community, because if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be here,” Erica said Thursday.
Ma and Pop’s Country Kitchen is located at 2840 South Park Road.
Volunteers packed boxes containing two meals, including the traditional Thanksgiving fixings of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and stuffing.
Erica said people also received rolls and coleslaw.
“All kinds of good stuff,” Erica said.
About 60 volunteers came out to Ma and Pop’s on Thanksgiving to help the cause. Some worked in the kitchen preparing food, while out front others worked in an assembly line to fill up the boxes.
Every box also came with dessert.
“All the desserts are donated by the community members,” Erica said.
According to Erica, about 355 people reserved meals.
“It’s very rewarding. We enjoy this day more than the people receiving the meals, I think,” Erica said. “It’s a lot of fun. Takes a lot of work. Takes a lot of organization, but it all kind of gels together and does well.”
