Intermediate Unit hosts son of Buzz Aldrin
Dr. Andy Aldrin, son of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, spoke last week at Intermediate Unit 1’s Peters Township campus.
Aldrin is the president of the Aldrin Family Foundation. On Nov. 16, he spoke to a room of educators, non-profits and elected officials about his father’s love for talking to youth about space, according to a press release from the IU.
He told the crowd that kids today may grow up into a space-based economy. Aldrin got a laugh out of the crowd when he shared a story about a student who wanted to be a barista on the moon. He told her, “Not if, when.”
“The moon is an incredible place for tourism,” Aldrin said at the event.
Following the speech, IU1 and Peters Township Middle School students were able to interact with maps and robots in the gymnasium.
“Kids love two things: They love space and dinosaurs. They get over dinosaurs; they do not get over space,” Aldrin said.
