A groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the beginning of upgrades to Pine Tree Park in Bethel Park.

“This is a continuation of our efforts to provide each neighborhood park with its own unique identity,” said BP Council President Tim Moury. “We also look to residents near each park to provide feedback on their favorite playground designs.”

Neighbors asked to keep the baseball area and the committee was able to do so by making slight modifications to the design, added Moury.

According to Moury, upgrades will include installing new playground equipment, resealing the basketball court and installing a new backboard; replacing the grill; installing removable bollards at the entrance; and some landscaping.

Sidewalk installation and stormwater management efforts are also part of the upgrades.

The municipality is also looking into the possibility of solar lighting for the pavilion.

Councilman John Oakes reviewed the pathway and discussed efforts regarding stormwater management that will include the installation of new French drains and new hydroblocks, repairing and replacing inlets, and updating an existing path to extend to the park’s pavilion.

The path will be constructed with Perk E Pave, a permeable/flexible paving that will allow stormwater to flow through it and into a French drain located at the bottom of the path.

Current playground equipment will be removed and replaced with new equipment expected to be delivered mid-October. The existing playground equipment will be repurposed to Lion’s Park.
