Rotary moves from farmers market to barbecue
The Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park Rotary Club continues its busy summer while juggling organizing for its biggest fundraiser in the fall.
The farmers market runs through Sept. 28. The event is held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays in the Westminster Church’s South Parking Lot at 2040 Washington Road.
The farmers market has continued to grow. This year boasted the best turnout of new vendors and more attendees.
“So many vendors tell us that this is one of the most successful markets they attend,” said Bill Findle, longtime Rotarian and past market co-chairman. “We’ve actually had to turn some vendors down. We are thrilled that we have continued such a strong presence in the heart of Upper St. Clair.”
With anchors like Simmons and Jodikino’s farms, Loafers Bread, Beatnik Sweet Eats, Lil’ Debby’s Delights, Wild River Kettle Korn, BroChachos Salsa, Beedles Ice Cream and Bad Azz BBQ returning, there’s something for everyone.
This year, the farmers market added over 10 new vendors, including the USC Crafters Guild, Rescue Dogs, South Hills Children’s Choir and Forlini’s Italian Kitchen.
“We also hear from community members who say how they love the ability to walk to the market from their nearby neighborhoods just to grab dinner,” said Janice LeValley, market co-chairperson.
After the final market on Sept. 28, the club turns its attention to the 34th annual Chicken BBQ Fundraiser. It will be held Oct. 28. Tickets are on sale at $15 each.
The organization is looking to surpass last year’s record of $50,000 raised.
“With the help from the community, this will be the best event on record,” said BBQ event co-chair Scott Churchill.
