Peters Township cheerleaders perform for senior citizens
Another new year has just gotten underway, and residents of The Waters of McMurray senior living community officially cheered it in the evening of Jan. 4.
Nineteen cheerleaders from the Peters Township High School cheerleading squad came to the community and performed. Several of the residents joined in the cheers, too.
The event came about through the personal connections of some of the girls on the cheerleading squad. Three of them have grandparents living at the community, including squad captain Rachel Zeisloft. Her grandparents are Ruth and Sam Zeisloft.
“The Waters of McMurray must be commended for continuing to bring in exciting entertainment for us to enjoy. Our activities director never ceases to find interesting and compelling activities for our pleasure,” said Ruth Zeisloft.
“As the grandmother of Rachel, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to watch my granddaughter in person leading a fantastic team of girls with their cheers.”
The cheerleading event was the kickoff for the intergenerational programming the community offers the residents throughout the year.
“We definitely encourage the intergenerational programming here at The Waters. The fact that a few of the girls on the squad have family that reside here makes connecting the generations even more special,” said Christina Szewczyk, who is the Active Life Manager at The Waters of McMurray.
The Waters, which owns and operates a dozen communities throughout the country, including two in Pennsylvania, prides itself on providing seniors with active community living. It offers a vibrant, enriching experience in which residents engage in a range of meaningful activities, including art, music, physical wellness, spirituality, culinary experiences and more.
Residents socialize and experience a wide degree of freedom in choosing their varied daily activities. This kind of dynamic environment is vital for long-term well-being. One of the positive impacts of active life is longevity and a sense of renewed purpose in the later years.
