An Upper St. Clair student recently placed first in his division in the statewide 2023 School Bus Safety Poster Contest, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The poster by rising seventh-grader Arjun Kairi now advances to the national competition.

Posters representing the theme, Safely Rolling to My Destination, were due March 1. The contest featured five divisions: Division 1 – grades K-2; Division 2 – grades 3-5; Division 3 – grades 6-8; Division 4 – Special Education; Division 5 – Computer Aided Drawing.

PennDOT selected first-, second- and third-place posters for each division. The five first-place posters from the state-level competition advanced to the national competition. National winners will receive prize money and the overall winning poster will be used in the 2023 National School Bus Safety Campaign.

Kairi will be recognized at an awards ceremony during National School Bus Safety Week on Oct. 18 at the Governor’s residence in Harrisburg
