Dog days
Beans cools off by sitting on top of a mound of ice left over from the water pools that held hydrating drinks for runners after a recent road race. The dog days of summer typically lasts from July 3 to Aug. 11. They’re usually the hottest and most unbearable days of the season. The phrase is a reference to Sirius, the Dog Star, which is part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. In the summer, Sirius rises and sets with the sun.
