Mt. Lebanon to unveil nationally accredited Main Street

Get ready to party in the street to celebrate Mt. Lebanon’s historic Nationally Accredited Main Street and the culmination of a two-year, $4 million upgrade to Washington Road’s lighting, sidewalks, conduit and irrigated flower beds.
“Uptown Unveiled” will be Saturday, Aug. 5, from noon to 6, on Washington Road, in Mt. Lebanon’s Central Business District. Admission is free.
Live bands include Big Fat Mallard, Fungus, Dan Petrich, the Mackin Band, Pat Hodge and DJs from Vinyl Remains. East End Brewing will have its tap truck in the street, and the Saloon of Mt. Lebanon will be selling drinks as well.
Patrons can play oversize games in the street, such as Jenga, Connect4, KerPlunk and cornhole.
A ribbon cutting will be held at 3 p.m. in Clocktower Plaza (near East End Brewing). VIPs, including County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, state Rep. Dan Miller, and Mt. Lebanon Commission Vice President Anne Swager Wilson will be among the attendees.
First responders from the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, Mt. Lebanon Police and Medical Rescue Team South Authority will be on hand to meet residents. Fire apparatus will be on display and MRTSA will have a misting tent if it gets steamy outside. The Mt. Lebanon Public Library will have its Book Bike on site for great reads.
Washington Road will be closed to vehicles between Cedar and Lebanon but both parking garages will be open. The venue is also steps away from the light rail line’s Mt. Lebanon station.
“We are symbolically returning Washington Road to its excellent businesses, to our residents and to our visitors, after our landmark construction project,” said Commercial Districts Manager Eric Milliron. “We want everyone to attend, have a good time and remember what a jewel our Uptown is.”
Work is substantially completed on the Vibrant Uptown construction project, which now moves into its Phase 2, which will include place-making such as artwork and creative use of space.
