Gardening event planned at South Park
The Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County will host South Park Garden in the Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at the new center located by the South Park Theatre at the intersection of Corrigan Drive and Brownsville Road.
There will be a series of speakers, and topics will include:
– Welcome to the New South Park Learning Garden at 10 a.m;
– Mulch Madness at 10:30;
– Native Bees in Your Back Yard at 11;
– Straw Bale Gardening at 11:30;
– Deer Resistant Gardening at noon;
– Growing Organic Fruit at Home at 2:30 p.m.
In addition to the speakers, there will be activities for children and information booths featuring master gardeners, South Park Theatre, county park rangers, Friends of South Park, Botanic Gardens, Rachel Carson Homestead, Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Burgh’s Bees and Garfield Community Farms.
There is no pre-registration and the event is free.
