103-year-old veteran to be honored at Bethel Park softball tournament
American Legion Post 760 in Bethel Park will honor 10 veterans, including a 103-year-old man who served in World War II, at a charity softball tournament next week.
The tournament will be held at 9 a.m. June 10 at Neil Armstrong Middle School. The ceremony honoring veterans will take place at 8 a.m. in the gymnasium.
George Reganick, who organized the tournament, said he will be joined by Bethel Park Mayor Jack Allen, state Rep. Natalie Mihalek and state Sen. Devlin Robinson.
“We will give them a plaque with their picture,” Reganick said. Robinson will also present the veterans with a proclamation honoring their service.
Among the honorees is Peter Edwards, 103, of Bethel Park, who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during the European Theater of World War II.
Participating in the tournament will be the Bethel Park Girls Softball Association. Reganick said another team will be made up of public officials, police officers and firefighters.
“All the donations go back to the Legion, where they distribute it to all the needy veterans,” Reganick said.
