Breneman picked for Future Legends event
Zach Breneman of Upper St. Clair has been selected to play in the Hockey Hall of Fame Future Legends event set for April 27-30 in Toronto, Canada. The Boyce Middle School sixth-grader will be among the 160 players his age from North America and Europe.
According to the organization’s website, the Future Legends is a showcase that features “the top 11-year-old boys and 12-year-old girls from around the world. Participants are ‘drafted’ onto rosters to ensure that the event features both great competition and geographic diversity on each team.”
Breneman plays right wing for the Pittsburgh Pens Elite 2011 team, which is made up of players from the Greater Pittsburgh area and competes at the AAA Elite level against teams from throughout the United States and Canada. The team recently finished the 2022-23 season with a 51-8-1 record and ranked No. 1 in the country by MYHockeyrankings.com.
In addition, Breneman participates in the Upper St. Clair Junior Panthers hockey program. Last summer, he was selected to play for Team Pennsylvania in The Brick, an invitational ice hockey tournament in Edmonton, Alberta. Team Pennsylvania was comprised of the top players from Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and southern New Jersey.
