A team from Fort Couch Middle School was among the top finishers at the regional Science Bowl. Comprised of Josh Beitler, Matt Beitler, Anthony Dipiazza, Malo Dubreil, Colt Erdos and Callum Pollock, the team placed second.

Hosted by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the event was held last month. Students from Boyce and Fort Couch middle schools were among the hundreds of students working in teams to compete in various hands-on challenges.

“This year they examined skulls of animals to infer characteristics about the species, interpreted and wrote about dioramas of animals, and learned about dinosaurs through the archeological exhibit,” said Fort Couch gifted education teacher Jason O’Roark.

The students’ scores on the challenges were combined to determine the overall winners. The Science Bowl is open to students in grades 4-8.
