Upper St. Clair approved the appointment of Hallie Snyder to the board of school directors on March 27. She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Phillip Elias. Snyder will serve the remainder of the term, which expires on Dec. 4.

Snyder is a fourth-generation resident of Upper St. Clair and an active member of the school community. With four children spanning middle school to a senior in college, she has served in numerous volunteer capacities throughout the district and greater community. At the elementary level, she has spent numerous years as a room parent and event chairperson. She currently serves as a volunteer and advocate with the PTC Wellness Committee, focusing on mental health and wellbeing.

In addition to being a parent and volunteer, Snyder is an owner of Victorian Finance, LLC, a 20-year-old mortgage bank located in Upper St Clair.

“Being a parent, teacher and business owner has given me a wealth of experiences that will allow me to contribute an informed and compassionate outlook when considering finances, staffing, and educational objectives,” she said.

A graduate of Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., Snyder holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in education with a specialization in special needs, including autism and pervasive developmental disorders. She previously served as a learning support teacher in the Fox Chapel School District and as a behavioral specialist consultant for the Pressley Ridge Autism Program.

The school board formally accepted Elias’s resignation during its Feb. 27 meeting. By law, Pennsylvania School Boards must fill a board member vacancy within 30 days.
