Upper St. Clair musicians to perform in PMEA festival

Three Upper St. Clair High School musicians were recently selected by competitive audition to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Honors String Orchestra Festival.

Junior Daniel Tung, violin II; senior Miriam Gutensohn, violin II; and freshman Ava Liu, viola, will represent Upper St. Clair at the event to be held Nov. 17 and 18 at Mt. Lebanon High School.

The students are led by Karen Chisholm. She is the orchestra director at high school as well as Fort Couch Middle School.

PMEA District 1 encompasses Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties. District honors festival musicians have the opportunity to advance to Region, All State, Eastern Division and National NAfME groups.

PMEA is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the musical development of all Pennsylvanians. The organization promotes and supports quality music education, learning and performance, as well as promoting and supporting music education in schools and communities.
