For those who enjoy Halloween, Bethel Park is offering lots of fun-themed activities for residents of all ages.

Bethel Park’s Public Works Department has been working with “Salty the Skeleton” as he travels around the community waiting for residents to find him and snap a photo. Salty can be found sitting in a public works vehicle at a variety of locations throughout the community to help promote the upcoming Halloween “Spooktacular” Parade on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and travel throughout Bethel Park with both a north and south route. Municipal vehicles along with those from the fire company, police and EMS will all be part of the rolling parade.

Children can dress up in costumes. They might even get some surprises as the parade travels by their location.

Painted pumpkins are located on various roads, primarily at intersections to mark where the parade will turn for its designated routes.

The annual Halloween Decorating Contest is underway. Judging takes place Oct. 24 through 31. Residents can nominate their home or someone else’s for consideration

One winning home will be selected per ward.

To nominate a home, email jdavin@bethelpark.net or call 412-831-6800, extension 211.

Winners will be recognized at the Nov. 13 Bethel Park Municipal Council meeting by Mayor Jack Allen.

For those aged 21 and over, Bethel Park’s “Park & Play” program will be holding its final event of the season. “Boos & Bites” is a wine and spirits tasting event on Oct. 28 from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at the community center (5151 Park Ave.).

Along with samples of the local wineries, breweries and distilleries, guests will also enjoy local artisan and food vendor samples, receive a souvenir glass, and enjoy the music of the band, Day One.

Two sessions are available (3 to 5 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.); a full event VIP ticket that also includes a special reserved room and light appetizers along with full day admission is also available. Advance ticket purchases are recommended. For more information, visit www.bethelpark.net/park&play.

Trick-or-treating will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.
