“The Trip,” a horror movie directed, written by and starring McMurray native Dean Jacobs will be shown at the Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center in Sewickley Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The film, a haunted house/slasher film honoring the legacy of the late director George Romero as well as Pittsburgh, is being shown as part of the theater’s Emerging Filmmakers Showcase. Showcase events are designed to encourage exchanges between local filmmakers and the public and are free to attend.

Raised in McMurray and a 2002 graduate of Peters Township High School, Jacobs began performing at the age of 10 for South Park Children’s Theatre, Little Lake Theater and other organizations. After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he landed some film roles, and is now living in Los Angeles.

“George Romero wrote the textbook on making a great independent film on a minimal budget,” Jacobs said. “My intention was always to pay tribute to the city of Pittsburgh and, in some small way, hopefully honor the legacy of Romero in the process.”

“The Trip” is set in a farmhouse in Westmoreland County’s Mt. Pleasant, where four childhood friends have planned a relaxing getaway. But, Jacobs said, the group “finds out the house has something else planned.”

The cast of “The Trip” includes Jacobs and Lori Cardille, the daughter of the late “Chilly Billy” Cardille, host of Pittsburgh’s “Chiller Theater” from the 1960s to the mid-1980s.
