Author Victoria “V.E.” Schwab to stop in Peters Township for ‘Novel November’

The Peters Township Library Foundation is gearing up for another “Novel November” next week.
The foundation will welcome Victoria “V.E.” Schwab all the way from her home in Edinburgh, Scotland. Schwab grew up in Nashville, and has written multiple critically acclaimed fantasy novels.
One of those novels, “The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue,” will be the main focus of Novel November on Nov. 1. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Peters Township High School Auditorium.
Novel November began in 2017, and organizers are careful to make sure their selections each year provide a different flavor than previous events.
“As we’ve grown and expanded each year, we’ve become more and more intentionally eclectic. We’re trying to reach all different kinds of authors with high quality authors that are writing books people care about, but also making sure we include authors from a variety of genres and styles so that we’re reaching all kinds of library users,” said Maura Kelly, the president of The Peters Township Library Foundation.
Kelly will act as moderator at next week’s event, and ask Schwab a series of open ended questions about “Addie LaRue” and her writing career in general.
“Addie LaRue” stayed on the New York Times Best Seller list for 37 weeks following its publication in October 2020.
Kelly described it as “low fantasy,” ostensibly taking place in the real world, but with a twist. The story follows a French girl in the 1700s who is made immortality following a bargain with a god.
“It reads very much like historical fiction, but it is fantasy,” Kelly said.
Schwab’s work includes novels that are aimed at younger readers, and Kelly noted that her appearance has generated more interest than usual from students.
“We’ve sold more student tickets than ever before. That was intentional in our choice of author,” Kelly said.
Those interested in attending this year’s Novel November should purchase tickets at ptlib.org/veschwab. Tickets are $30 for adults, $5 for students.
