Two face forgery charges in Peters Township
A man and woman were arrested by Peters Township police Monday after being accused of attempting to cash an apparently fraudulent check.
Mark Malone Jr., 44, of Braddock, and Shona Marie Conley, 42, of Pittsburgh, each face felony charges of forgery and access device fraud.
According to the criminal complaint, Peters Township police were called to the Community Bank on Washington Road where Malone had attempted to cash a check. Malone told police that Conley, who was sitting on a bench outside, was also involved.
According to the complaint, Conley and Malone claimed to be homeless and that they were driven to the area by a man and woman from Pittsburgh who asked them to cash checks.
Malone was dropped off at Community Bank while Conley was taken to the nearby Key Bank. The manager of the Key Bank branch told police that Conley had attempted to pass a fraudulent check. According to police, the checks belonged to a Cranberry Township couple.
Malone and Conley were arraigned Monday night before District Judge Joshua Kanalis, who denied them bail for not having verifiable home addresses. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. June 3.
