Peters Township to host 25th annual haunted trail
As the Halloween season begins, those looking to get into the spooky spirit can get their frights in Peters Township this weekend at the 25th annual Haunted Trail event.
The trail is hosted each year by the township department of parks and recreation. It will run Friday and Saturday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at the community recreation center at 700 Meredith Drive.
The entrance to the trail will be just up the hill from the building. Lisa Morris, the assistant parks and recreation director for Peters Township, said a team of volunteers will serve as the storytellers and actors.
“We have different scenes set up along the trail. Our theme this year is “Scare Fair.” Everything is going along with that theme,” Morris said.
Morris did not want to spoil every spooky surprise in store for those who walk the trail, but said attendees can expect to see “creepy carnies” tending to carnival booths, and a zombie beauty pageant.
“We will definitely have clowns out here. Usually we have our chainsaw person as well,” Morris said.
When visitors reach the end of the trail, a hay wagon will provide a lift back to the entrance, where there will be an Auntie Anne’s food truck.
Morris described the Haunted Trail as one of the township’s biggest events of the year, attracting about 2,500 across the two nights.
“We definitely encourage the community to come out. We put a lot of time and effort into planning the event,” Morris said. “We look at our haunted trail as being your first introduction to haunted attractions.”
Morris said many of the sights and sounds of the haunted trail won’t be appropriate for children, and that people should be aware of uneven terrain on the trail and wear proper footwear.
“The weather is supposed to be beautiful. We’re looking for that to kind of work in our favor as well,” Morris said.
