1. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro will speak Nov. 29 at a “Challenges to Recovery” meeting in Mt. Lebanon to discuss the opioid epidemic. The event at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, will go from noon to 6 p.m., and broach a variety of topics. Shapiro will speak for about an hour to start the event. Walk-ins are welcome, but registration is suggested by calling the local office of state Rep. Dan Miller, D-Mt. Lebanon, at 412-343-3870.

2. St. Gregory’s Byzantine Catholic Church will hold its annual “Taste of Heaven Cookie Sale” from 8 a.m. to noon on Dec. 2. There will be a large assortment of both ethnic and traditional holiday cookies and treats. In addition, kolbassi orders will be taken. The church is located at 2005 Mohawk Road in Upper St. Clair (Brookside Farms). For more information, call 412-835-7800.

3. The Watchful Shepherd’s Holiday Home Tour will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 3, featuring preferred homes of Peters Township. Tickets may be purchased for $25 through November in area businesses, including David’s Limited, Washington; the Colorful Rooster, Southpointe; Miller’s Ace Hardware, the Cob Collection and Arabesque, Peters Township; Malone Flower Shop, Canonsburg; Keller Williams Realty and Miller’s Ace Hardware, Bethel Park; and Today’s Tiffany Lamp Company, Galleria Mall, Mt. Lebanon. Proceeds will benefit Watchful Shepherd USA, a child/family abuse prevention program.

4. Peters Township is once again participating with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in collecting Toys for Tots this holiday season. New, unwrapped gifts for children from infancy to 14 years of age may be placed in the collection boxes anytime through Dec. 8. Collection boxes are located at the Peters Township Community Recreation Center and Peters Township Public Library. Items can also be dropped off at the tree lighting ceremony at the library, which will take place at 6 p.m. Dec. 3. For more information, call the Recreation Center at 724-942-5000.

5. LifeSpan announces its eighth annual “Sweet Holiday Wishes” Cookie Donation Campaign. Cookie donations are being accepted for its Meals on Wheels/Home Delivered Meals participants this holiday season. Simply donate 2-3 dozen of your favorite holiday cookies at your local LifeSpan Senior Community Center or HDM Kitchen no later than Dec. 15.
