Peters Township clinches section title in golf

Behind the record-breaking performance of Hunter Bruce, Peters Township clinched the Section 7-AAA title for boys’ golf.

With a 193-205 victory against rival Upper St. Clair, the Indians completed an undefeated slate in league action, posting a 10-0 mark. Overall, Peters Township is 16-1 heading into the WPIAL team playoffs. The Class AAA semifinals are set for Oct. 10 and the championships are scheduled for Oct. 12 at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.

Against USC, Bruce shot a high school match record of 32 on the front nine at the Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg. The Penn State recruit came in at 4-under-par.

Parker Johnson carded par (36) while Michael Bell, Matt Petrisin and Conner Gielarowski chipped in scores of 40, 41 and 44 to seal the victory.

For the Panthers, Jack Steve, Jack Urban and Chris Joson all shot 40s while Nathan Piatt and Andrew Rocks finished with 42 and 43 scores.

Individually, the Indians advanced three golfers to the WPIAL individual championships to be held Oct. 3 at the Nemacolin Country Club.

Bruce took third overall with a 1-under-par 71 at the Donegal Highlands Golf Course. Johnson and Bell carded 74 and 76 scores and qualified for the championships.

Steve advanced for USC. He netted a 77 score to make the cut of the Top 18 qualifiers.
