Peters Township golfer wins sectional

Hunter Bruce captured the Section 7-AAA boys’ golf championship. The Peters Township senior carded a 1-under par 71 at The Club at Nevillewood to earn medalist honors.

He led a host of Indians that advanced to the WPIAL semifinals set for Sept. 26 to be held at either the Links at Spring Church in Apollo or the Donegal Highlands Golf Course in Donegal.

Mt. Lebanon advanced two golfers. Cory Koval and Sheamus Cochran both moved on to the semifinals.

PT improves to 13-1

Peters Township ran its record to 13-1 overall with a 185-213 win versus Mt. Lebanon. Both Squads are undefeated in section action but with the loss, Lebo dropped to 9-2 overall.

Making the cut score of 83 or under were Bruce’s teammates: Michael Bell, Parker Johnson, Matt Petrisin and Christian Stewart.

Upper St. Clair advanced a pair of golfers as Chris Joson earned runner-up laurels with a 75 score and Jack Steve carded a 77 to finish fourth.

South Fayette’s Luke Lestini took fifth. The sophomore scored a 78.

Michael Bell shot a 1-under 35 at the Southpointe Golf Course to pace the Indians. Hunter Bruce (36), Matt Petrisin (37), Parker Johnson (38) and Geoffrey Poon (39) followed. Luke Rolfsen shot the low score (41) for the Blue Devils followed by Cory Koval, Sheamus Cochran, Hayden Mitchell and JT Nichols.

The Indians also beat Chartiers Valley, 188-227, at The Club at Nevillewood in Presto. Poon had the low score of 36 followed by Bell (37), Bruce (38), Petrisin (38) and Johnson (39).

Previously, the Indians defeated Upper St. Clair, 186-191, and South Fayette, 193-243.

Bruce carded a 1-over par 35 on the St. Clair Country Clubs’ Terrace 9 course to lead the Indians against the Panthers. Conner Gielarowski finished with a 36 while Johnson and Petrisin followed with 38s.

In exhibition competition, Ellian Ascencio fired a 38 while Tyler Lawrence, Joe Pisarcik and Christian Schreiber, all finished with 40s.

For the Panthers, who suffered only their first league loss, Andrew Rocks led with a 36. Chris Joson (37), Nathan Piatt (38), Jack Urban (39) and Jack Steve completed USC’s scoring.

Scott Jordan and Matt Goldman competed in exhibition matches for the Panthers.

Against the Lions, Poon and Petrisin led the Indians with 37s. Bruce and Johnson supplied 39s while Mike Bell finished with a 41.
