Ellie Benson, 9, of McMurray is headed to the Masters.
The McMurray Elementary School student advanced to the finals of the National Drive, Chip and Putt Championships, to be held April 2 at Augusta National Golf Course the week of the Masters.
The competition is sponsored by the USGA, the Masters Tournament and the PGA of America. Benson will be one of just 80 junior golfers competing after a nationwide playoff.
Benson earned her spot in the national finals by successfully competing in the regional competition Sept. 16 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The fourth-grader placed first in putting and second in chipping. She finished first overall with a score of 104 in the girls’ 7-9 age group.
