During National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the Peters Township Police Department and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will provide the 14th opportunity in eight years for residents to rid their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

Bring your pills for disposal to any of the following sites from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 28:

• Rite Aid, 4185 Washington Road

• Giant Eagle, 4017 Washington Road

• Market District Express, 2840 Washington Road

• Heisler’s Market, 601 E. McMurray Road

The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, just pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous.

In April, Americans turned in 450 tons of prescription drugs at 5,500 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,200 state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in the previous 13 Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 7.3 million pounds or about 3,650 tons of pills.
