Peters Township lacrosse opens playoff action

Peters Township began defense of its WPIAL lacrosse title by soundly defeating Sewickley Academy, 22-2, in first-round playoff action.

In the contest played May 14 on the Indians’ home turf, Danny Bacchiochi reeled off five scores and Zack Grambling recorded the hat trick.

Ben Delaney led a list of six other players with two tallies while racking up five assists.

With double goals and one assist were Colton Abate, Aiden Stopperich and Aiden Midoli.

Mike Vilsack and Brady Seekly scored two goals each while Colin Pakela and Nicki Phelps managed single tallies.

With assists in the contest also were: Derek and Nick Mahramas.

With the win, the Indians advanced to the quarterfinals to face Fox Chapel on May 16 at a time and site to be determined.

In other first-round action, Mt. Lebanon defeated North Hills, 16-2, and Upper St. Clair eliminated Greater Latrobe, 13-4. Bethel Park also defeated Seneca Valley, 12-7.

Lebo will face Shady Side Academy, a 17-6 winner over Canon-McMillan, and USC squares off against North Allegheny, a 16-1 winner against Franklin Regional, in the quarterfinals set for May 16. The Hawks will play top-seeded Pine-Richland in their next playoff game, also set for May 14.
