The Peters Township Police Department has been selected to receive the 2026 NASRO Model Agency Award from the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).

The department is one of 11 law enforcement agencies across the United States and Canada to receive the award for demonstrating excellence in their school resource officer programs.

The Model SRO Agency Award is given to departments that exemplify NASRO’s “triad concept,” which highlights an SRO’s role as an informal counselor, public safety educator, and law enforcement officer. Agencies are also recognized for implementing creative and forward-thinking strategies in their school-based policing programs.

“The township and the school district do a fantastic job of supporting us in such a way that we’re able to be successful,” said Peters Township Police Chief Joseph Glover.

He lauded the seven SROs who serve in the district’s five buildings and the Intermediate Unit 1 educational campus.

“They absolutely love their job, and the schools love having them. Especially at the elementary schools, they spend a lot of their day giving out high-fives and hugs, and talking to kids,” said Glover. “A lot of their success has to do with the positive attitude they have.”

He also noted that the officers have made it a point to attend extracurricular activities and sports events to support the students.

“Especially at the IU, there are kids who have never seen a police officer in their entire lives, and Officer (Charles) Allard greets them at the front door, says, ‘How are you doing?’ says ‘Hope you have a great day.’ Being a positive role model for a lot of these kids is just fantastic,” said Glover.

There are 12,000 police agencies that provide SROS for schools.

The award will be presented at the National School Safety Conference on June 29 in Reno, Nevada.
