Belmont Jewel benefits Horses With Hope
And the winner is … Horses With Hope.
The Bethel Park nonprofit drew a crowd of 110 to its inaugural Belmont Jewel, a gala at South Hills Country Club on the day of the final event in horse racing’s Triple Crown.
“We thought it would be a great tie-in,” organizer Kristin Huibregtse, secretary of the Horses With Hope board, said. “It’s our actual first big fundraiser, so we thought the Derby or the Belmont would be great fits for it.”
The South Fayette Township resident and her husband, Dean, wore appropriate headgear for the occasion. Even though the event turned out to coincide with the Belmont Stakes rather than the Kentucky Derby, guests were encouraged to wear festive hats in honor of the latter.
Horses With Hope is a therapeutic riding and equine-assisted learning program that founder Anne Davis started in 2007. Today, the organization has a 93-acre facility that boasts an outdoor riding arena, a sensory trail riding area and indoor barn used to house the animals.
