The Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) celebrated the Year of the Pig during the 32nd annual Lunar New Year Banquet at the Senator John Heinz History Center. Some 250 guests enjoyed sumptuous cuisine that featured a cold appetizer platter and sushi and sashimi special rolls, as well as nine main dishes of pork, shrimp, duck, Korean-style short ribs, green beans, Chinese broccoli, vegetarian Shanghai noodles and Cantonese-style fried rice – not to mention homemade sesame balls for dessert. In addition, the OCA, TZU Chi Academy and Win-Win Kung Fu Cultural Center provided the entertainment. Highlights included choreographed routines by Blue Elegance, Festival Dance and the Feature Fan Dance. Feeding of the Lions concluded the entertainment before the basket auction and door prizes. The Lion Dance is conventionally performed during the Chinese New Year to bring good luck and fortune. Former Peters Township librarian Pier Lee served as honorary chair while Marna Furman was the event chairperson. WTAE-TV meteorologist Cam Tran emceed. Past president Karen Yee of Bethel Park was among the many volunteers who helped plan and organize the festivities. The Chinese Lunar New Year began Feb. 5 and festivities ended on Feb. 19.
